Q: What do you suggest first-time visitors do while they're here?
A: Plan a few hours with Rick from Blue Heron Custom Tours. His tours showcase not only San Francisco's famous landmarks and neighborhoods, but some of the Bay Area's hidden gems, www.blueherontours.com.

At 10:00 a.m., I was picked up at the Handlery Union Square Hotel by Rick Spear, who operates Blue Heron Custom Tours and Travel, providing personalized trips in and around San Francisco, the Bay Area, and Northern California.
Rick is the driver and tour guide, and he took me around in his late model Honda Odyssey. We drove over the Golden Gate Bridge to Muir Woods...
Thereafter, we stopped a number of times along (the) Marin Headlands which gave me spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the city of San Francisco from different vantage points. Just when you think the vista couldn't get any better, it does.
Then it was a short stop at the Marine Mammal Center, which coordinates and responds to stranded animal reports...
The Blue Heron Tour took five hours. It was relaxed, leisurely, and extremely enjoyable, with Rick answering any question that I posed. It was a great way to experience San Francisco beyond the city borders and, as I suggested at the outset, Rick Spear operates half- and full-day tours of San Francisco and its environs. You tell him what you want, and he can cater to it, entering places large tour buses can't.
